HER.

"somedays arent yours at all, they come and go like their some one elses days, they come and leave behind some elses face and its harsher than yours."

-somedays, regina spektor

after listening to Regina Spektor all night last night, i feel way too contemplative today.  Her lyrics just sort of stick with me all day long, today being one of them.  And what better to pair this quote with my best friend Emily's pictures, maybe it's because she loves Regina as well, but her pictures seem to go quite well with Ms. Spektor's songs.

Let her know what you think, by the way.

Love you Emily (and your work), this one's for you!

Going Mad.

Spending my day off watching Mad Men & creating new salads.
is it bad that I imagine Don Draper and Betty Draper as what my grandparents were like in '60s?  The cocktails and lipstick is what does it.

I want Paris.

i know these sofia coppola pictures have been everywhere lately, but taking a second look at them really makes me antsy to visit France, or even Europe in general, sometime soon.  I love the elegant simplicity of that city, and the macarons help too.

Saturday.

Spent my day outside reading, eating a veggie burger on toast with hummus, basil, and tomato, with cucumber water, getting a tan.  Time for a bike ride before work.

Last post about this movie, I swear...

love this NPR interview with Mark Webb, director of '500 Days of Summer.'
I think it's genius he gave the actors iPods with music clueing them in to the mood needed for the scenes of that day.

"I think we all can relate to this idea that, when someone likes the same music you do, it can be a very powerful thing," Webb says.

ha, tell me about it.

"The most painful state of being is remembering the future. especially the one you'll never have."

Tuesday, July 21, 2009

I love this new blog. It's girly & fun.

Mental Notes.

I enjoy fantasizing about my future, including my future apartment that I can't wait to decorate (who knows when this will actually happen).  Thanks to the selby & antique stores for playing into my fantasies.  Sometimes i like to pretend this apartment is in some place like Tangier, Southern California, or even a little house in the south.

things on my list so far:

1. Chalkboard paint. this is such a genius idea. for the kitchen, maybe even the fridge? I'd love to have it on a wall in my room (the guy in 500 days of summer had it & it comes in handy as an inspiration board-for him an intense makeover scene where he rediscovers his passion for architecture.)

2. A pug. my home would not be complete without my own little black pug (name still undecided, shapiro? winnie?)

3. Collection of crazy & random portraits of 17th/18th century men and women.  Maybe one of the Marquis de Lafayette to express my undying love for him.

4. Random antique collectibles (I was so tempted to buy Mammy & Butler salt and pepper shakers the other day)

I found one of these in blue & knew it was for me.  I want a nautical themed room.

4. Plantation print china. This stuff is just too awesome (if not china, then wallpaper)

I'm already giddy with excitement.

Dopeness, Wackness.

I saw this movie last summer. right before i went to new york for school & i'm so mad i can't be there for the summer, and this movie just shows me what i'm missing (also, having been set in the '90s i am equally jealous as it shows the new york i first saw via Friends, Seinfeld, and Mad About You. The old new york.)
Oh, and the soundtrack is pretty rad.

new find!

i am obsessed with my new antique magnifying eyeglass necklace. it's the closest thing to a monocle (which i still want) that i've got.  i even got to show it off at work tonight (one of the only things i like about hosting, dressing up!).  I also can't wait to use it in the darkroom next year!

I hope you read this.

i love these lyrics. it's such an amazing song.

"We've been in the rain
We've been on the mountain
We've been round the fire

In fancy hotels
Drank water from farm wells
We sang with the choir

I kissed your dry lips
We jumped off the high cliffs
And splashed down below

Skin to skin
In the salty river
Made love in the shadow
Woooah ooh

Read books to each other
Read the mind of the other
Flew one thousand

We laughed and we cried
At movies and real life
In our ridiculous beds

We danced in the moonlight at midnight
We pressed against back doors and wooden floors
And you never faked it

And frequently
We ignored our love
But we could never mistake it
Oooh ooh

We met on the front porch
Fell in love on the phone
Without the physical wreck

You gave me the necklace
That used to hang
Around your mothers neck

We questioned religions
Fed bread to the pigeons
We learned how to pray

We stood by the ocean
Turned our hearts in to one
We laid in bed all day
Heeey

We skipped on the sidewalk
Skipped stones on the water
We skipped town

We've seen the sunrise with new eyes
We've seen the damage of gossip and true lies
We've seen the sun go down

Had passionate makeouts
And passionate freakouts
We built this world of our own

It was in the back of a taxi
When you told me you loved me
And that I wasnt alone"

Julia Nunes is amazing.

"If it wasn't this, it'd be something else."

i woke up at 1:44pm. i've been awake for two hours and im ready to go back to bed.
i remember what this feels like now.

it's been one week. it'll be seven more until school starts again.
i guess i can wait.

"things have changed for me, and that's ok, i feel the same, i'm on way, and i say, things have changed for me, and that's ok."

closure?

I bet you're hard to get over
I bet the room just won't shine
I bet my hands I can stay here
I bet you need - more than you mind
I think you're so mean - I think we should try
I think I could need - this in my life
I think I'm just scared - that I know too much
I can't relate and that's a problem I'm feeling.

Binki Shapiro.

along with Little Boots, I'm also loving Little Joy.  Which includes The Strokes' Fabrizio Moretti, his girlfriend Binki Shapiro, and some other guy (Rodrigo Amarante). The music is amazing. But I love Binki. Even her name is awesome. I've always the name Shapiro. Plus, look at her.

Little Boots.

New music. I'm in love with Little Boots.

Is it July 17th yet?

Working Girl.

I decided if all else fails with my career choice I'd want to be a flight attendant. Ever since I saw these movies with these ladies making it look like a dream job, I've always thought it would be fun. Although, if I could I would be a flight attendant during the '70s. Then it would be a vacation 24/7.
